Bob and I met up at 6:15a and were on the water shortly thereafter!

When I looked down river, I did not realize that today was gonna be a smoky day until Bob told me. It was bad towards the end. The eyes are still recovering.

It wasn't long before Bob got the skunk off with a white buzz bait (he paid attention to what Andrew was using the other day)!

Then another one!

And one on a small swim bait. Just like that, he had me down 3-0!

So we left that spot! lol

I did get 2 blowups on my popper but never felt the fish.

Our next spot produced nada and we were concerned. The water was already at 82-83dF and very little movement.

We then went way up river where there was a bit more current and I got my skunk off!

And we caught  a bunch!

I made a bad cast and then made a perfect one under a tree.
This was the biggest at just shy of 16.5"!

We were getting bites but they were smaller fish...we think. Then Bob caught this nice long ear!

Bob had me down 6-5. Fishing was slow but the bites and near misses kept us interested.

And then there was me!! I lost 5 fish right at the boat. We saw them! Two jumped and the other 3 just spit the hook as we were trying to net them or they got close They only count (when they self release at the boat)  in shad! fishing!

We ran in to Capt. Rich on the way back and he was fishing with his mom. They had caught 8 smallies and 1 flat head.

All in all, we did what we could even though today was supposed to be "Season's Best" fishing day according to the Solunar calendar. Apparently, the fish dd not get the memo. Unlike last week with Andrew, we only saw 1 smallie other than what we caught.

When we finished, the water temp was creeping up on 85dF.

So it was hot but we did OK. Until we hit the ramp! FURNACE!!

Nice job getting out and catching some.  Too bad the bite was not better.  I think the fish feed more at night when it gets hot.  I like the baits you guys were using.  Crazy how it rains hard and the water level drops in this area.  Takes a few days to get a bump if any.  Love the sunfish!!

It might rain hard but unfortunately, it's short lived. Needs to rain longer than 10 minutes. Most of the T-storm activity we've been getting is spotty at best. Barely nudged the creeks.  Plus, we need the water up river. Whatever comes down Goose Creek  and Broad Run only muddies the VA bank.

Looks like we are getting a .2' bump on Wednesday. That's so negligible...

River was skinny today...it dropped while we were out there. I had the pucker factor going on the way back. And retrieving the boat was not easy. No water at the ramp. mad

Pretty awesome fight on those fish.  Nothing like the death roll of a channel cat

People up in PA call them evasive.
