7-11-23, 'doah

Roney K. and I got down to Luray at 7a to fish the 'doah with CT Campbell.

I was actually a little chilly at the start!  And it never got hot...a most pleasant day!

The skunks came off fairly quickly...

Roney was catching most of his on top water. I stuck to the Flat Worm by Berkley. Color did not matter. And of course, I also threw the Coppertreuse by Z-Man. It did not disappoint.

If I caught one fish today, then I caught 50! Or more!

I really believe that the smaller fish were getting to the bait quicker than the larger ones.

Speaking of larger ones, Roney threw the Whopper Plopper and we saw an explosion! It startled all of us! Then a big jump and...see ya! He spit the hook. It was a tremendous fish and all we have is the memory of the hit and the jump. Exciting for sure.

We caught fish all day until the last 1/2 mile or so but we were whipped by then..

I had a nice multi species day of smallies, 1 largie, a couple of long ear sunnies and a hogshead sucker!

Our best spot was "One Hour Hole". We caught at least 2 dozen there, and some of our bigger fish. I did not have time to take pics during this episode.

Here are some more pics.

The ride home took a bit longer as there was some traffic issues on  Rt. 66 so we diverted over to Rt. 81.

We were very satisfied with our day. Numbers for sure. Feisty little fish too!

Thanks for spotting the rare bird. I believe this is a juvi bird. Very cool looking. We were perplexed as to what it was.

And of course, we saw eagles (mature and immature) and even a deer walking the shore line (cliff was too high for it to go up it).

Interesting bugle mouth bass.  Aquarium release?  Or a fresh water garabaldi?

And the panfish on a SMW jig.  Small fish for such a big jig.  Must have been hungry

These suckers are common on the 'doah but not in numbers. I caught one while fishing w/ Josh Turner once, on a fly (in a yak).

I caught a couple more  BG's on that jig. They were tearing my baits up. I've never gone through as many as I did. But it was still fun!
